Distant ocean,
And sunset’s beams,
Recall long forgotten dreams.
Dreams of power,
Dreams of fame,
Dreams of easing personal pain.
A chilling gust,
The sun’s last rays,
Recall long forgotten days.
Days of courage,
Days of pain,
Days filled in with storms and rain.
The snow-white foam,
The ocean blue,
Recall memories of you.
You had to go,
I had to stay.
For your safety I did pray.
The running tide,
The rocky shore,
You would return nevermore.
I said I’d wait
Till I grew old,
Until the stars were dead and cold.
A whispering breeze,
A ghostly sigh.
You left not knowing you would die.
Darkness fell,
Eternal night.
Never penetrated by the light.
The sun’s last rays
Begin to fade.
I’ll never forget the promise you made.
The last moment,
You clasped my hand.
Then forever you left the land.
The sun has set,
Beyond the sea.
I gaze upon it, only me.
The ocean’s beauty,
Bright and fair.
A night breeze rustles my hair.
The moon rises,
Day fades to night,
Yet my memories of you are forever bright.
How sad it is
That the sea
Made me recall that memory.
I see your shadow
On a stone,
Though I am all alone.
You will haunt me
Night and day.
Never will your spirit stray.
Distant ocean,
And sunset’s beams,
Recall long forgotten dreams.
